Hung the show yesterday at Beyond The Image Gallery, Thornham,Suffolk with the help of Patrick Forster who was great to work with. Good to see all 12 pieces hanging together and looking forward to the opening tomorrow afternoon. Just a few loose ends to sort out this afternoon such as booze and nibbles, and then we're all ready. :-)

Finally finished my last piece for the show at Beyond The Image Gallery; another quirky inktense pencil piece of my husband.
Had a 14 hour work day yesterday, nine and a half hours of which was spent in the studio... bit tired to say the least but pleased and happy. Today I shall be collecting frames and mounts and framing all the work. Really looking forward to seeing how it looks all finished off. Had a wonderful day at Life Drawing Class yesterday. The room was so warm that our brilliant model, Rob, tuyrned the heater off a couple of times and we had to open the windows during the afternoon to let some frsh air in! The atmosphere was very cheerful and positive and we had quite a discussion about the benefits of 'quickies' and whether is best to start with longer ones, working your way down to the cery quick ones or the other way around.
In the years that I attended Life classes, the classes always began with a 10 minute quickie, working downward, so that is the way I strutured my own classes. It is only recently that I've heard of people starting the opposite way, so I thought we'd give it a try this week. We decided that the benefits of starting with the very short ones, are that it is easier and perhaps more natural to move through to the longer poses, apporaching them with the same energy and dynamism that you would with the quickies and that it helps to re-enforce that processs. Unfortunately, I forgot to take photos; I must get into the habbit of doing so! But altogether a very positive and productive day! I really do believe there is something to say for beginners luck. When you first try something, you don't wholly expect to succeed, so approach it with a certain amount of abandon, which is why we are often surprised by the enexpected results. Once you've done it once or twice, you start to overthink, analyse and intellectualise the process so that often, subsequent attempts are less successful.
And so it's an autumnal, frosty and still Thursday morning with 5 days left to produce work for Buckenham Galleries, Southwold and for my upcoming show at Thornham. On schedule so far, but time is short and rather sttretched.
Had a good evening at Life Drawing last night with the marvellous Rob as model. Hadn't worked with him for a while so it was great to be able to do so, he's great to draw and comesa up with someamzing poses which are both challenging and inspiring. Have the whole day ahead to spend in the studio without being aware of time restriction because I have to be somewhere; I can immerse myself fully in the creative process without having to clock watch - Yay! Fingers crossed, I have another successfully productive day. Beyond the Image Gallery, Thornham Walks, Thornham, Suffolk
12th November - 18th December, Opening times: Saturday & Sunday 11am - 3pm I am having a new exhibition of work at the gaqllery situated within the stunning grounds of Thornham Walks. I'm working hard to produce new work and although it's perhaps, not the right time to be experimenting and taking risks, I have started to do so with some positive results which I'm pleased with. The Opening celebration with be on Saturday 12th November 13 - 1600 hrs with the ususal refrshments and nibbles. If you're in the area, please do pop in. I discovered Derwents' Inktense Pencils whilst working at City College, Norwich, supporting students. They are similar to watercolour pencils in the you can dilute them with water and move the colour around. The differences are that the colours, as the name suggests, are much more intense and vibrant and also that providing all the pigment has been diluted, once dry, they are permanaent, allowing you work and build up in layers whilst not disturbing the layer beneath. I fell in love with them! I used the vouchers I received for xmas last year to buy myself a set of 36.
I have recently completed some public art in Halesworth, Suffolk. The group responsible for organising Halesworth In Bloom decided it would be a nice idea if the bollards outside the shops in the High street, could be painted with something relevant to each shop. Each has been painted by a different artist and I had the pleasure of painting two; one for Banyan and one for Flick & Son Estate Agents. It was a wonderful experience and I had many people chat to me about what I was doing and met some lovely local characters. If you're in the area, take a walk through the High Street, the bollards really brighten up the town centre and bring a smile to your face; each one is unique and very beautiful.
I recently had a communication via this website concerning one of my charcoal drawings. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to respond as the email address he'd given wasn't recognised. I really do appreciate all comments and will always reply so if you do wish to contact me, please ensure that your email address is correct so that I can respond. Thankyou :-)
